The 18th edition of the Absolute Bertsolari Championship will be held in autumn 2022

As the situation triggered by the pandemic is improving gradually and considering that territorial championships will be carried out to the end, the association Bertsozale Elkartea has decided to organize the 18^th edition of Absolute Bertsolari Championship in autumn 2022.

It will begin in Getxo on September 24 and will end in Pamplona on December 18, after touring the Basque territory.

The Absolute Bertsolari Championship is itinerant, since the aim of Bertsozale Elkartea is to promote bertsolaritza throughout the Basque Country. As a result, the bertso-eskolas and bertsolaris are engaged and motivated.

With this purpose and after analyzing that Navarra Arena offers the necessary infrastructures for the final of the championship, the association has made the decision to place this event in Pamplona, thereby influencing on the region. Actually, since its foundation in 1984, Nafarroako Bertsozale Elkartea, the association of bertsolaritza in Navarre, has made a great effort to promote bertsolaritza in this region, where this improvised verse singing art has been designated as an asset of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2018.

From San Sebastian to Barakaldo

The next Absolute Bertsolaris Championship will be the 10^th edition organized by Euskal Herriko Bertsozale Elkartea since it was founded in 1987. Here is the history and locations of the championship.

All the finals took place in Donostia (1935-2001) until Bertsozale Elkartea decided in 2005 to organize the final at BEC in Barakaldo, with the aim of influencing on Greater Bilbao.

Main priority: recover the usual shows

Recovering everyday shows will be the main challenge for the bertsolaritza movement now. The association is also working with enthusiasm in the organization of the coming championship, as well as the territorial ones which are currently underway.
